Der Begriff setzt sich aus Dynabook und Z für Zürich zusammen. Dynabook wurde von Alan Kay (Biblionetz:p00541) 1972 geprägt, als er im Paper A Computer for Children of All Ages
(Biblionetz:t03304) erstmals die Vision von persönlichen Lerncomputern formulierte.
